COMMUNITY LETTERS OF SUPPORT TO MINISTER KELVIN GOERTZEN FOR PERSONAL CARE HOME BEDS
Seniors housing is an important issue to all Manitoba residents at all stages of life. Whether you are considering housing options as;
- a senior,
- for your spouse who needs care, or
- a child of an aging parent or grandparent.
Senior housing options that ensure comfort, dignity and an excellent quality of life, is at the core of our decision-making process.
The Chalet Malouin is located in the heart of a vibrant multicultural community with a strong francophone heritage in the heart of St. Malo. It currently provides Independent Living for 55+ (47 suites) and Independent Living with Assistance – ILA (38 suites). The conversion of a portion of current Independent Living with Assistance suites to Personal Care Beds would complete the service we can provide to our seniors for aging in place.
By having the option to age in place, you are able to, remain in a community you have lived in for several years, and for many, your entire life. You would not have to be separated from your spouse in the final years, which for many, creates extreme stress for our seniors. When you are required to move to a new location, you experience confusion from, new surroundings, new staff, and new neighbors, which can be very difficult to an already frail mental state. Having a facility which will offer PCH beds to our community and surrounding areas will ensure that seniors will be able to receive a full access retirement in a safe, caring and fully bilingual facility.
The Chalet Malouin’s Board of Directors have initiated communications with the Minister of Health’s office to consider the Chalet as an answer to a province wide problem, shortage of Personal Care Beds.
Community support is a vital step to have the Minister’s office consider this project as a viable option and the dire need of the community. The Board of Directors would appreciate your assistance by taking a few moments to inform the Minister of Health of your personal experiences while your loved one was a resident living in the Supportive Housing / Assisted Living suites at the Chalet and the difficult decision needed to have your family member move to another community to receive the level of health care needed (PCH).
